Mentor Spotlight 🌟 Abby Garrett (Abby Jane) is one of the kindest people you will meet! Her love of her community and the service work she does makes us proud to have her in our PROJECT MENTOR program. Thank you Abby Jane! She writes: “I enjoy spending time with my husband and our two daughters and working with the team at Safe Haven. What I enjoy most about the mentoring program is watching my mentee gain confidence and open up over time. I wanted to be a mentor because I wanted to support prevention efforts in our community”.

PROJECT MENTOR spotlight 🌟 Chris Case We are grateful for your willingness to mentor students and the years you have been a part of this program! Chris shares with us his thoughts… “I am old school. I try to promote social skills that they can use in the future to communicate more comfortably with teachers, classmates, and possibly future employers. One of the things I enjoy the most is that over the years seeing trust build up in the companionship; this is a gradual process. I would encourage anyone who thinks they have time and patience to become a part of the Mentor /Mentee program. There’s a shortage of Mentors and the program is so rewarding as you see the results of the program in the child’s life”.

MENTOR SPOTLIGHT 🌟 Mandi Beeson comes to PROJECT MENTOR as a first year mentor and we love her! The sweetest personality AND she and her mentee, Faith, just won our t-shirt design contest! Mandi writes: “I like to craft when I get the spark. I enjoy spending time with my family having movie nights with pizza and popcorn. My hubby encouraged me to sign up to be a mentor, so I can’t take the credit. But I will say that I’ve enjoyed this opportunity to bring a little cheer to a kiddo’s day. Seeing that little face light up knowing it’s mentor day is my favorite. I’ve enjoyed all the projects/activities that this program has incorporated into the lives of these kiddos. Joining the program has definitely brought me some joy as well.” Thank you Mandi! 🐾

The middle school went into a soft lock down for a few minutes today. An employee outside of the building hear a loud noise she was unable to identify. The noise was quickly identified and was not a threat to student safety. It was a plastic sign that had overturned.

PROJECT MENTOR Spotlight 🌟 Irvin Picazo-Coronado is our Mentor of the week! He brings his own special experience as a mentee while in middle school and we are thankful he’s chosen to give back! 🐾 Irvin writes: “When I’m not working, I enjoy visiting family, catching up with friends, or listening to a good Audible book. Without hesitation, when I heard the mentoring program would be back, I instantly agreed to be part of this amazing opportunity. Being a mentor is more than just a once-a-week visit — it’s about creating a safe space for mentees, a space they may not have access to otherwise. My favorite part of the program is knowing that, one visit at a time, we’re giving back to the community and helping shape the future of our mentees.”

This week’s PROJECT MENTOR Spotlight is on Dakota Beeson 🐾 Thank you for taking a leap of faith and joining our team! Dakota writes: “I enjoy hunting, hiking, anything outdoors, and spending time with my wife and 2 kids. I became a mentor because I wanted to play an active, positive role in my community. My favorite part is when my mentee sees me and runs up to give a hug. Just being a friend that they can count on to show up can work wonders in these kids' lives.” "The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members." -Coretta Scott King

Project Mentor Spotlight Melissa Hubernek “Originally from New York State, my family and I moved to Lamar in the spring of 2020 after my husband accepted a position at Arkansas Nuclear One. I enjoy cooking, traveling and spending time with my husband and two sons. Although I currently work at a preschool, I previously taught health education at the secondary level for over twenty years. Middle schoolers, especially, are my jam! I sincerely miss making a difference in the lives of tweens and teens, which is one of the reasons I chose to become a mentor. Also, I wholeheartedly believe in the importance of serving others and giving back to my local community. Mother Teresa said, “Not all of us can do great things, but we can do small things with great love.” Mentoring has provided me with the opportunity to do just that, and that, by far, is the best reward!”
